From the Associated Press:
Unemployment numbers for September of this year hit 9.8%, the highest since June of 1983. If those who are no longer looking for work, and those who have settled for part-time employment are included, unemployment is at 17%. This is the highest on record, dating from 1994.
The total number out of work is 15.1 million Americans, and most economists expect unemployment to continue to rise over 10% and keep climbing.
