Beginning in 2011, California Will Track Gun Ammunition Sales

Posted on October 12, 2009

Governor Schwarzenegger signed a bill today requiring people buying ammunition in California to provide driver’s license data, a signature, and a thumbprint.  Since all of this data must be collected in person, internet sales of ammunition to California will be eliminated.   The law takes effect in 2011.

To justify this move, Schwarzenegger claimed local governments have proven these requirements enhance public safety.  I’d sure like to see those studies!
