As I commented in a post yesterday, while living in Arizona, I’ve become acutely aware of how U.S. citizens are at risk from  illegal immigrants smuggling drugs and bringing the associated drug violence with them across the border.

A case in point from AZ Central:

A truck filled with marijuana bundles slammed into an Arizona City home Sunday night, following a pursuit by authorities.

Residents of the home were not injured.

Deputies with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office responded to several 911 calls about two vehicles exchanging gunfire and traveling at high rates of speed. Responding deputies found a white car pursuing a grey truck and were able to stop the white car. The occupants of the car reported they were being rammed and shot at by the truck.

The truck continued to drive at high speed through Arizona City until crashing into a home. Two men inside the truck fled and authorities couldn’t find them.

Deputies discovered 10 large bundles of marijuana and a gun inside the truck.

During the course of the investigation a man turned himself into authorities as a passenger of the vehicle. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said the man told authorities he was a passenger in the truck and was smuggling marijuana. He said he couldn’t identify the driver.

The man, who is a suspected illegal immigrant, denied firing on the other vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Don’t worry though, Secretary Napolitano assures us that the borders are more secure than ever.
