Border Patrol Agents watch for illegal entry f...

Maybe he was just coming to America to do a job ordinary Americans won’t do, like preach radical jihad.

From the L.A. Times:

U.S. border authorities have arrested a controversial Muslim cleric who was deported from Canada to Tunisia three years ago and was caught earlier this month trying to sneak into California inside the trunk of a BMW, according to court documents.

Said Jaziri, the former Imam of a Muslim congregation in Montreal, was hidden inside a car driven by a San Diego-area man who was pulled over by U.S. Border Patrol agents near an Indian casino east of San Diego. Jaziri allegedly paid a Tijuana-based smuggling group $5,000 to get him across the border near Tecate, saying he wanted to be taken to a “safe place anywhere in the U.S.”

The arrest marks the unexpected resurfacing of the 43-year-old cleric, whose protracted legal battle to avoid deportation drew headlines in Canada. A Tunisian immigrant, Jaziri was deported for failing to disclose a criminal conviction in France while applying for refugee status in the mid-1990s.

Why does an attempted smuggling of a radical Islamic cleric into this country comes as a surprise to anyone?  As I’ve blogged about before, there are thousands of OTM’s (other than Mexican) caught at our southern border, many of them from countries who are unfriendly to our own. The amazing thing here is that we actually heard about this arrest versus the claim by some border patrol agents who say the government is purposely covering up this type of threat which is regularly encountered by our border patrol.

From WSBTV.com:

The U.S. Border Patrol has captured thousands of people they say are classified as OTM which stands for “other than Mexican.” Documents show many of them are from terrorists nations like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan and Yemen. Federal authorities call those groups SIAs, which stands for “special interest aliens”.

Federal officials have offered few details about the number of actual terrorists caught along the border.

Retired immigration agent Michael Cutler says the actual threat is being covered up. “Incredibly the government is attempting to keep the citizens like a bunch of mushrooms. Keep us in the dark and feed us a bunch of manure.”  (emphasis mine)

Government officials have denied that terrorists have crossed our open border. Still, Channel 2 Action News has proof they have. Channel 2 Anchor Justin Farmer found documents filed in federal court in San Antonio, Texas, in May. They show an indictment against Ahmed Muhammad Dhakane for allegedly smuggling hundreds of people from Brazil to Mexico, then into the U.S. The federal indictment states it includes some Somalis from the terrorist group Al Shabob. Terrorism experts say the group is responsible for terrorist attacks and suicide bombings worldwide. (emphasis mine)

Smuggling of suspected terrorists is nothing new.  The frightening thing is that no one knows how many have been brought into our country and are still roaming free and undetected here.  Fox News just reported that an Iranian book celebrating suicide bombers was recently found in the Arizona desert.  It appeared to have been there “for several days or weeks” and no arrests have been made in connection with it.

Until we get serious and realize that securing our border is about keeping our citizens safe and not some racist ploy to keep migrant workers from securing work they cannot find in their home countries, we are destined to keep seeing these types of arrests over and over again.  Well, at least hopefully we’ll see these types of arrests, because if not, it means we’re not catching them.
