Let’s hope it won’t take too long before he’s out.

From Fox Phoenix:

(NewsCore) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will have officially entered the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination by next Friday, his spokesman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Wednesday.

“By the time Newt speaks to the Georgia convention, he’ll be a candidate,” spokesman Rick Tyler told the paper, referring to the state Republicans’ annual meeting to be held in Macon, Ga., on Friday, May 13.

A PPP poll from mid-April listed Gingrich as getting 11% of the primary vote after Trump, Romney, and Huckabee.   Speaking only for myself, none of these candidates, including Gingrich, get me excited about the 2012 election.  Gingrich has even a greater negative connotation in my mind than the others after the Dede Scozzafava incident and his couch tour with Nancy Pelosi to raise awareness about global warming.  My reaction to his announcement? Meh, surely we can do better than this.

UPDATE:

It looks as if the official announcement will come be this Wednesday, May 11th:

NewsCore) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will officially enter the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday, his spokesman Rick Tyler told NewsCore Monday.

Gingrich will make the announcement through Facebook and Twitter and will give his first interview as a candidate later that day to FOX News Channel’s Sean Hannity at 9:00pm ET, Tyler said.
